LAPL question
Hi,
I am working towards my LAPL. I am nearly ready to solo but I haven't done all of my ground exams yet.
Does anyone know if there's a requirement to pass the Air Law ground exam prior to flying solo under LAPL regulations?

There is no regulation which obliges you to pass any exams before flying solo - the only prerequisite being that you must have passed all exams before attempting the Skill Test.
Your local ATO may have their own internal policy, which presumably you accepted as one of the conditions of the LAPL course they offer.

It's quite a common requirement and makes a lot of sense since it demonstrates that you have some idea of what to do around an airstrip and other aircraft. It can appear quite daunting, but it's a great grounding on what's expected of you as a pilot. Enjoy the subject if you can - but treat it as life-long learning rather than a short-term exam pass.

Just think - IF something goes wrong and you violate any regs, who will be held responsible? If you passed Air Law and be solo, you are supposed to know. If you haven't passed, why did the flight school let you out alone? I did not dig in the regulations, because it does make absolutely sense to have certain exams passed before solo-ing. At the school I passed PPL and started to learn to fly, you had to have passed all theory exams before solo. At least the insurance of the plane will be quite interested in such things, may there something had happened ...

Of the present reegime of PPL TK Exams, 'Operational Procedures' would be more useful than 'Air Law' to require before 1st solo.
Personally, I require students to pass Air law, Operational Procedures, and Communicatios before I will send them solo.
