What is best for Pilot Training - Cessna 152 or 172?

I want to become a pilot, and understand that there are many different types of aircraft to train on... However, my research tells me that the Cessna' seems the best aircraft for pilots to train on, but what is best - the Cessna 152 or Cessna 172?

Personally, having instructed on both (and having owned a 172) I would opt for the C172 every time.

It's bigger, heavier, more powerful (but not to any significant degree) and carries four passengers; but it is also wider and if you're a big bloke with a big instructor the 152 will be very uncomfortable.

Another reason for choosing the high-wing is that it makes navigation training easier with its better surface visibility.

The one thing I would make sure of is that the particular variant of 172 used for your training can intentionally spin - personally, I feel taking this out of the training syllabus (if only as a demonstration lesson) was a mistake but hey ho, that's just me.
