You need Adobe Acrobat reader installed - you can get it free here. You really should take a look. But yes, it's ridiculous - for example, grant of a PPL(A) is £143 and you then pay a further £57 every five years - but I doubt that they care if pilots are poor or not...

You think that's bad - my night qualification set me back £64 for the words "The privileges of this license may be exercised at night". That's £1.36 per letter.

How do you get them to do that? I could do with one of those!
My FAA PPL cost me the grand total of $0.
The FAA IR was issued for free, but I did have to pay the instructor, the examiner, and the written exam fee.
It's the government's fault. It told the CAA it has to be "self funding", and ripping us off for licence issue is about the only way to do that.
Bit like telling the Army to be self-funding...
Whatever you do, don't suggest that to Tony Blair or Gordon Brown!
