Anybody at Blackpool? Weather today?
Hello all,
I have a flying lesson today (hopefully) at 1500 - I live about 50 miles North of EGNH and woke up to quite dense fog. I've looked at the METAR and TAF, but, without having excellent aviation knowledge, am finding it quote difficult to decode. The TAF has various different time-scales, 2 of which are exactly the same, but have a different forecast.
Can anybody that lives or flies down there confirm what the weather is looking like, and if you think, even based on past experience, that it will clear by 1500Z?

Now is the perfect time to learn to read the metar and the taf. The taf clearly tells you what the weather is likely to be later day at Egnh plus you'll have to pass an exam in meteorology to get your license

Indeed, I can read them. I know what most of it means, but this is the TAF that I have got:
TAF EGNH 130802Z 1309/1318 28007KT 0200 FG VV/// BECMG 1309/1312 3000 BR BKN008 BECMG 1312/1314 FEW010 PROB30 1312/1318 8000
To me, this says that between 1200 and 1800 visibility will be 3000m and FEW clouds at 1000ft.
But it also says that between 1200 and 1800 visibility will be 8000m - Is this a 30% chance that it will be the latter? Or have I completely got the wrong end of the stick?

In Scottish terms.
Its going to start the day ****e. (1309/1318 28007KT 0200 FG VV/// )
At about lunch time its going to clear up a bit. (BECMG 1309/1312 3000 BR BKN008 )
About 2 its going to cheer up to be OK. BECMG 1312/1314 FEW010
It might get a bit dull at some point in the afternoon but just as likely it will be fine. (PROB30 1312/1318 8000)

That's what AeroWeather does for you...
You will still have to learn how to decode it yourself in order to pass the Met exam and if you're intending to go for CPL/ATPL then there's another Met exam to sit too!

Well, I believe it'll just be a 'standard' flight. I haven't flown powered for nearly 3 years, but have got some gliding experience. I've also only flown 5 hours powered, but I've had an interest in aviation for as long as I can remember, so have done my research.

Just like the Eskimo's have a hundred words for describing snow, the Scottish have a hundred modifiers for describing the degree of "Shyte" that is the weather today.

Aye, it was cancelled. Oh well, re-booked for tomorrow - wind speed quite high (according to forecast, which could be a load of

The weather is ridiculous. booked for 1500Z tomorrow. Supposed to be a bit cloudy, but quite strong winds. Luckily down the runway.
In fact, could you assist?
I'll be flying a Piper PA-28-161 Warrior 2. Wind is supposed to be 20knts gusting to 30, but in a westerly direction. Can I still fly in this because the runway pretty much points into the wind? Or do you think it will be called off, for the 3rd time?

From your previous post, it would appear this is your first lesson, ie almost a trial flight.
20GT30, on r/way hdg, is not particulary pleasant, but perfectly doable. It will be down to the instructor to determine, however, you want the most out of your flight, and if the conditions are challenging, then you may want to wait until a better day.
IMO it is ok to go up when you have a good few hours under your belt, to experience the choppier conditions, but for a first 'lets go flying', and to check your proficiency, tomorrow may not be the best option.
Then again it could be flat calm...
