Drones near cliffs - in the U.K? Notammed?

University of Aberdeen used drones to scan North Sea oil reserves | Aberdeen & North | News | STV

STV says drones are being used by Aberdeen University and Bergen researchers to examine cliffs in remote areas . I don't recall any notams, and the EASA ban on manned flight below 500' is still not in force.

They could be line-of-sight in which case I don't think they need to be notammed - any more than when I take my toy helicopter to the park.
