Aircraft rental in Spain(Alicante)

Hi chaps,

I'm looking at going to Spain to do some flying and more importantly hour building towards my CPL. I've googled everything but have found very little.

Can anyone recommend any places to hire an aircraft(preferably pa28 or 172) where an English instructor could do my checkout?

Oh and I forgot to add, it must be within an hour of Alicante as I get cheap accommodation from a relative.

Thanks

GBOZR

I flew from Mutxamel when staying in Alicante, some 10 years ago now though.
Club still seems to be going.

Hi GBOZR ..
I know its not close to Alicante but I have been looking into fly-in-spain.com based in Jerez.. I put a post in the wannabes forum looking for info/feedback, link to my post: Link Here

Fly-in-spain have quite good accommodation rates, €150 per week in an apartment.... from what I have heard when asking around they seem to have a good reputation but slightly older aircraft... rental rates are quite competitive though.

When are you thinking of going to Spain to do your flying?

I am considering it as I am revalidating my PPL after a long long time not flying, the weather here in UK is painful!

Slightly off topic, but was thinking of taking the Cub down to Alicante, some time this month. Does anyone have any knowledge of any grass strips available for use nearby, as 11 metre wide tarmac could be a bit interesting in any significant crosswind?
I don't mind short, or bumpy........The main airport is rather a long way from the town I am visiting, and probably expensive. I'm looking close to Finestrat, and see strips marked on the map but without names, so it's hard to find information. I suppose a spanish equivalent to Pooleys would be ideal, if anyone could point me in the right direction.

sm85,

It would be towards the end of this year preferably before christmas! I've looked at Jerez before and admittedly they do seem to be the best I have found.

I know fall into the hole of paying €150 for accommodation or can near enough get it for shrapnel from a relative plus a hire car!

It seems to me like there isn't much ga down this area of Spain.

Classique, there is a great book called Campos Eventuales, published by the Spanish Air Force, that lists all sort of strips. You can buy it online from a pilot shop in Madrid here.

There is also a website dedicated to UL strips around Spain, cannot find the URL right now, but a bit of Googling should turn it up. Most of these strips are probably good enough for a Cub.

GBOZR, you are correct - there isn't much GA in Spain anymore. The - relatively little - there was has been largely wiped out by the economic crisis the country is in. GA fields that had a vibrant community 5-6 years ago now feel like ghost towns, with not an airplane in sight.

That said, a lot of GA flying in Spain had already migrated to the UL scene before the crisis.
