Medicals - how much under EASA?

Now that we have transitioned to the wonderful world of EASA, how much are others paying for their Class 2 medical?

To kick things off, I paid £130 today for my annual medical without ECG; last year I paid £120 with an ECG. It was the same Luton based AME on each occasion.

And your AME has hiked his prices, why?

May Class 1 costs the same under EASA as it did under JAR. Might be worth talking to Fran Voeten he does medicals at Daventry and Coventry. Very reasonable and a nice guy and active pilot.

My EASA PPL medical was MUCH cheaper last November, with the SAME AME. He said this was due to EASA.

Did my EASA class 2 medical at the end of September for £130, if I had it a couple of weeks earlier under the jaa medical it would of been £170.

Standardization of pricing very evident then.

I never had a GP, believing that doctors kill you, and you are more likely to pick up a life threatening disease by visiting a surgery. Similarly I do not visit people in hospital- same premise.

However, to get regular medicals for my flying, I did join a practice. I have never been there, other than for my CAA medical. Last year, this doctor, decided he could not read my ECG, went into blind panic mode, and had me referred to a consultant cardiologist. Despite my protestations, he also informed Gatwick. I threatened to sue him, but apparently, there is some bizarre law that I could not sue him.

Anyway, the consultant found nothing wrong, then sent me an invoice for 170.00, for his time writing the letter to Gatwick.....

This is one part of aviation it certainly pays to shop around.

A Dr Jamieson did my Class 2 initial near Cumbernauld (with ECG) for £150 (outside normal office hours) a couple of years ago (I'm sure that price has since changed - back then he also charged £110 for a class 2 renewal).
Another Doctor in Glasgow wanted two appointments (ECG separate) charging £160 for the exam and £70 for the ECG so £230, so long as the ECG was before 4pm. If I wanted the ECG out of hours it was £875 (to book time at a private clinic)...
