EASA aircraft (NO TC HOLDER - ORPHAN)

Should one steer clear of such an aircraft from a maintenance/support perspective and/or is there any means of operating them under some form of EASA permit?

(I note that a while ago the CAA gave their annex 2 orphans the chance to go on a permit - LAA or CAA I presume)
