Private Licence

Hello everyone, i'm from Bradford Ontario. I'm new to this site and I am very confused about the pilot licencing system. I want to go for my private licence this summer. However I don't know which types of aircraft allows me to do this. I have done some training in a Cessna 172, but its very expensive. Is it possible to get my Private pilot licence training in an ultra-light or sport-aircraft? Or do I have to train in a light aircraft like the Cessna 172? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank-you.
