Using iPad or Garmin Aera 795

I'm undecided whether to use an iPad or the new Garmin Aera 795 to supplement what I already have onboard the aircraft. The latter is all I've wanted in a handheld portable GPS but the price is about 3 times that of an iPad. Has anyone here used the Garmin 795?

Also a general question about geo-referenced GPS moving maps. Does this only happen in the lateral plane, or do the geo-referencing also happen in the vertical plane on descent following a VNAV profile, and the approach profile for say, a VOR/DME approach?
