Question for our Australian pilots
Off to Oz on Wednesday for a month, I've contacted an FTO over there and asked if I can do an hour with an instructor just to get Oz in my logbook really. I've been quoted what seem like very high prices to my UK wallet, around $350 per hour including instructor and landing fee. Is this the going rate?
thing,

Just remember that flying Downunder, you will be inverted all the time.

That's on the high side, but I guess it depends on the aircraft and the airport. Sounds like a quote you'd get from a larger flying school operating out of a busy airport.
I'd see what flying clubs are in the area, you should be able to get something for around $280 per hour.
Can you tell us what airport that quote was for?

What airport do you want to operate from?
What aircraft have you been quoted for?
