Aircraft ditched off IoW was optical illusion
Light Aircraft Crash Reported Off Isle Of Wight, Police Say False Alarm
Plane crash report 'false alarm'
'Crashed plane' was actually an optical illusion (From Daily Echo)
Aircraft reported ditched off The Needles by some tea-drinkers at the Old Battery panoramic cafe. Apparently there was a low-flying white plane and a white fishing boat which was dropping items overboard and they somehow blurred in an illusion. Only possible aircraft landed in Alderney later without incident. Coastguard helicopter and other emergency services who went in search now stood down. As somebody commented on one of the articles: 'next time I'm at The Needles, I must try some of their tea...'

Wouldn't be the first time..
There's a lovely old fishing boat now permanently moored in Yarmouth harbour. The skipper is doing 25 for smuggling drugs he recovered from a ship in the channel.
All under the watchful eyes of HMC &E and the police.
You'd think he would have known they can track boats these days.
