Fitting DC headset into soft leather helmet

Quick query for those of you in the know.

I was given a leather helmet to hold my headset in place during aerobatics. It's this model from the Proviation store: >> Proviation Pilot Shop - Pilot Shop, Avionics, Flight Equipment, Pilot Supplies, Aircraft Equipment ... 070.001%26

It fits my large noggin and is nicely made. However, my DC 10-13.4 headset won't fit the onto the helmet as the headband is too broad for the top securing strap, even once the foam pad has been removed.

Do I need to get another new headset or is there a way to fettle the DC I have to get it to fit? I've been looking for one of the old-style 'pillow' head cushions from DC to retrofit to the headset but can't find a UK supplier.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
