Murky today
Down below (cloudbase 2000ft)
Climbing up a bit
and here we go (3000ft)
Quite a significant inversion. +2C on the ground, -5C at cloudbase, -3C above the cloud.
Sadly one cannot often do this, because the base of controlled airspace is usually too low to get above the clouds.

You fly from the wrong place Peter, there's no CAS around here. Thrashed a 172 up to 10,000' last summer. felt a bit sorry for it actually. Very nice photos, what camera was it?

I am suprised you think the pics are especially good. They are low-res and very hazy. Only the one with the sea reflecting the sun has been tweaked, to remove what would have been an even denser haze.
The camera is a Pentax K5. 1/1000 or so. F6.7 or so. ISO280 on the above mentioned pic, 1/2000, F6.7, ISO160 on the VMC on top pic. TAV mode (you set shutter and F, the camera picks the ISO).

Not murky here....
It was a beautiful day!
My favourite lake for landing on... (but not where you see the open water!)
Sorry, modest camera (but the windows were not that great anyway!)

No, as enticing as the water is, the Teal is preserved and tied down for the winter. It's not nice to takeoff the water in air which is below freezing, and splash the airplane. It instantly freezes all over the airframe, windshield, and prop.
My job was to be sure that the pods stayed on this: (they did!).
It was a lovely +3C here, though it is supposed to be -16C tonight. It's going to be brisk, as I have to be in the lake, in a suit, at 8 tomorrow morning.
