Unhappy Android GPS System.. .QCT Maps

Hi

I have a nice Hannspree Android 10"Pad that I might like to use (when I get my license renewed) as a moving GPS display together with a BT GPS unit.
I have downloaded MM Tracker ..which looks about the best of a poor bunch!! Unless anyone knows of anything better for Android as a moving map GPS system?
It would be nice to use a CAA digital map..BUT of course they are pretty much locked to Moving Map and their QC3 format!
And MM Tracker needs a map in a .QCT file format..and they are not available anymore ..so i believe??
I have an iphone but the screen is not ideal for viewing and there are various reports about its GPS reliability!?
Any answers out there?

Many Thanks

I gather Oziexplorer is now available for Android.

You can get more maps running under Ozi than you will ever want

Also, I gather that Android tablets can use normal NMEA bluetooth GPS receivers, which is more than one can say for the crippled tablet from Apple

Yes, confirmed working with my Holux 236 / Galaxy S2 and also with Galaxy Tab 10.1.

QCT files are easy to make - if you have the right version of Memory Map. You need to download the free MM desktop software & then buy the US$50 Discoverer to Navigator upgrade. The OS made MM remove all mention of it from the UK website but the US website has details.

If you don't want to scan & calibrate your own maps, the trial version of MAPC2MAPC will convert an Ozi calibration file into a format acceptable to MM. You can convert any Ozi desktop map into a qct map in a couple of minutes.

Does it work with all the various possible Oziexplorer calibrations e.g. the 9-point polynomial?

Most people use the polynomial cal on scanned charts, because it copes very well with stretching.

But most moving map products which can display Ozi format maps do not support this. I have one such (Bitmap) on the Ipad, but it is basically useless.

This looks interesting for an Android app: Naviator :: The Navigation Solution for Android Aviators. The split screen scratchpad is a novel idea.

North America-centric at the moment, but they do refer to a worldwide database.

Also, the developer appears to be responsive to user feedback, much like the author of Sky Demon in the UK.

No idea, send me a link & I'll give it a go.

Ozi desktop maps are usually images with a calibration file, aren't they? Calibrating a map image in MM is easy, it's the scanning that's a pain.
