Do my FAA ME hours count towards a JAA ME?

As in the title - I would like to have both. Couldn't find it in LASORS.

Yes they do. If you hold an FAA AMEL rating then to add it to your JAA licence you need to undertake a skill test and submit the paperwork. If you are in the Midlands I would be happy to do it for you.

Not quite the full story. If you have 100 hours as pilot of MEP aeroplanes (not including PUT time), 70 hours as PIC of aeroplanes and have operational experience as pilot on the class within the last 5 years then it is as bose has said. However, if you do not meet the experience requirements, you will have to undertake training at the discretion of the Head of Training at an approved FTO and pass an approved theoretical knowledge exam in addition to the Proficiency Check. Having said that, I'm sure that bose will still be able to accommodate you. (LASORS F9.1)

Does it have to be an FTO?

Yes, it does, or I wouldn't have written it -
LASORS F9.1
Applicants wishing to gain a MEP Class Rating who hold a valid non-JAA MEP Class Rating but who do not meet the experience requirements in items i) or ii) above will be required to attend an approved FTO and complete training at the discretion of the Head of Training. Applicants will be required to pass a written theoretical knowledge examination and a Skill Test as well as meeting the experience requirement of item iv) and the requirements of item v) if applicable.
If we're being pedantic, I should have written Skill Test rather than Proficiency Check but the content is exactly the same.

That's odd; at the field I am based, there used to be an instructor doing ME training out of a hut. I cannot see how he could have been an FTO...

The hut only needs to be acceptable to the authority.

Thanks.

I don't have 100hrs of MEP time yet. No real rush, I'll just fly the old Commander a bit and do it when I have.
