IOM TT Races

Hello all,

Have decided I would like to goto the TT races on Friday the 10th June.

Departing Newtownards.

I've looked online for advise but all the information is a bit old (2006).

I will ring Manx Flyers and Andreas Gliding club tomorrow.

Any advise or suggestions to make this as easy and fun as possible? Also a method to get from the airfield to a good spot on the circuit?

Thanks in advance.

Brian

Hi There,

It's not Andreas Gliding club you need to contact to fly into the airfield, it's the airfield owners (For some reason AGC are listed as the contact in a number of VFR guides, and they are not). Contact details listed on AMP website:

IOM Airfields - Andreas

The owners of Andreas might be able to give you a lift to the course if you ask when you call.

If you go to Ronaldsway, Manx Flyers may have a car available to loan you, but as it's TT there will be a lot of GA in so someone may have already taken the cars. If you do fly into Ronaldsway, even though it is not PPR make sure you call Manx Flyers before you leave, make sure someone will be about.

June 10th is Senior Race day and will be the busiest day of the fortnight. If you decide to go to Ronaldsway Manx Flyers will likely be very busy so it's a good idea to book in with them advance. They may be able to help with with transport, or at least arrange a taxi for you. Having said that, it may prove better to hire a car for the day (available in the airport terminal). Failing those options, you could try the bus! (See here for details.) Transport options from Andreas may be rather more limited. It's a public holiday on the island and the roads will be very busy, particularly in Douglas.

Whichever you decide to go to, Ronaldsway would appreciate a flight plan (sent to EGNSZPZX). Sorry to sound patroninsing, but do check your NOTAMs before departure and also have a read of this AIC for details of airspace restrictions used to protect the medevac helicopters. Call Ronaldsway nice and early on 120.850 and don't enter CAS without a clearance. If you're going to Andreas and are quite low Ronaldsway may not be able to hear you - if this is the case then try Scottish Info on 119.875 before changing to Andreas Radio on 130.1.

Oh and a quick heads up for the 10th - sunset should be around 21:45 I think, so you may be able to stick around for the planned evening entertainment.

Most of all, have a great time - I'll be stuck in work (at least until lunch time)!

Thanks gg190 & NoMannIsAnIsland. All good links.

Don't worry about sounding patronising, as I'd prefer to have all the information. I realise this is going to be the busiest day and I want to enjoy it by having everything covered before I set off.

Brian.

Brian,

Did you get sorted? If you are looking for a passenger to help with costs I would be very keen to join you. My next option will be the midnight ferry from Larne on Wednesday.

Thanks a mill.

No room for anyone else this time, but there's always next year....
