G496 zooming in

G496 zooming in
If en-route with various WP's set on the 496, I would normally have the route view scale set to either 5nm or 8nm however, when approaching either a WP or destination, the 496 zooms into the WP - right down to 1nm on the scale (I think from memory).
Its obviously a factory setting but can it be changed so that it doesn't zoom into each WP and destination - I'd much rather do it myself and its less distracting knowing that I can glance at the GPS thinking that I am still a number of miles away but in fact may be much closer than I thought?
