Does anyone have any idea about what is going on at Bidford and Enstone? Two nice airfields ... yet everything seems to be imploding!

I can't give much more insight from my side of the atlantic, but, as a former resident of both of those fields, I've been trying to follow events.

I understand that they have until the end of March to file the planning application for Enstone, but there is a good basis for opposing it. Legal costs could be a big issue, so hope is that a solution will be reached without going to court. The North side operation at Enstone in unrestricted and unaffected by the proposals.

I've heard very little about Bidford. A great little field if you avoid the damp patches. I hope they can continue as such.

This seems to be a lease renewal issue not a planning issue. A tenant in these circumstances is entitled to a new lease and a landlord can only oppose a new lease on a number of limited grounds: e.g. that he intends to occupy it for his own use or that he intends to demolish or reconstruct on the land and needs vacant possession for that purpose. It is not a ground that you have a different use in mind for the land (unless accompanied by the landlord occupying the land himself) but of course the land's potential for other uses may affect the renewal rent payable. A lease can also only be brought to an end by giving at least six months notice and that notice then triggers the tenant's right to apply to the court for a new tenancy.
