Airfield near Ballycastle, Northern Ireland

Folks,

I'm planning a trip to NI in May. Anybody know of any airfields close to Ballycastle? I get a lift on arrival so 'close' can mean a fair way.

Thanks

Tim

What used to be called "RAF Ballykelly" can't be all that far away. In the grand scale of things Norn Irn is not all that big so Belfast City and Belfast International are also not too far away.
Not a golf trip is it?

Try Causeway airfield just SW of Ballymoney. A nice, well kept strip.

Don't think you'll be allowed into Ballykelly unless in an emergency or you have contacts in the military.
Derry City is just a few miles down the road fom Ballykelly about 30 from Ballycastle.
Newtownards (close to Belfast).
Enniskillen, fair distance away but well worth a visit.

PM me if you want any info.

Look what happened when Ryanair tried it a few years ago. Be careful, apparently Ballykelly and Eglinton look similar.

Cheers

Solar, there used to be a satellite field near to HMS Gannet (Derry) many moons ago, where I remember Fairey Fireflies doing circuits and bumps (addles?) if Gannet was being used. Does it still exist?

Causeway Airfield

Being based at Causeway Airfield- I can say that its a great strip. Only 20 minutes drive to Portrush. Often a lift is available start / end of day.

Free landing fee in April 11 via Flyer mag, otherwise £10 - the group running it is a non profit making association.

NW200 - superb racing and Craic.

Hi la4180,

Causeway looks like a great airfield and is in the perfect location. It's definitely the one I'm going to use.

Do you know of a couple of suitable alternates nearby? Need to know in case of diversion.

Cheers

Nice

I;m looking at coming over for the 200 as well, was going to use Eglington but Causeway looks cracking!! Never been to a grass strip though before. Maybe see you at the field weather permitting!
