Trip to Libya

I seem to remember last summer, in one of the magazine, someone was trying to arrange a trip to Libya.

Anyone know if they are still going?

If not anyone fancy it this year? Could be interesting.

PS is it quieter there than Oban?

I doubt the trip will go ahead given the current situation but two Libyan pilots have started a Euopean trip with a stop in Malta !

Although I doubt they'll be going much further than Malta for the time being. Military aircraft that are technically owned by the Libyan government (whatever is left of that anyway) do not make good European tourers at the moment.

To answer the original question: Sam Rutherford is a frequent visitor to this forum and might be able to help you. Although he might be a wee bit busy at the moment.

His website: | p r e p a r e 2 go | come here before you go there According to this, they're currently on an African safari and it seems they just missed the turmoil there. If you look at "Aviation" you can find the link to the trip report and blog.

I think those jets will have just enough range to get out of Malta without ditching

I wonder what ICAO code one would use on a Eurocontrol flight plan for the a/c type?

GADD?

In aviation, south of the Alps, the real question is always the same: how many US$ have you got rolled up in your pocket?

just back!

Sorry for the delayed response, I've just returned from our trans-Africa trip.

Our Libyan trips (one for planes and one for helicopters) are not yet cancelled - but clearly things are not looking too good. If we do have to make a change, we'll be keeping the dates but heading for Algeria...

There's more info on our website.

Safe flights, Sam.

Hi Sam

It wasn't a serious post.

I know someone on the ground in Libya at the moment. He's mad and welcome to it.

(PS He's not special forces or anyone else likely to be captured by a farm labourer with passwords written in their note books. )
