Sammy:
I'm surprised you had to pay! the concept was that pilots were coming for the Safety Day, not to visit the museum. If anybody had a look round, this would be covered by the two-hour concession that the museum offers pilots before charging admission. Could you send me a p.m. with more details, please.
It may be down the the way the conversation with the admissions staff actually went?
Anyway, I'm sorry you had the problem, and I hope you were charged the Bonus day discounted rate.
Alan.

Frangatang: I wouldn't say 'numerous.' We had fifteen bookings where the aircraft didn't arrive, but at least ten of these phoned in advance to cancel (including two who phoned later to say they had to turn back). So there were just a handful of slots which were not used.
The broad slot system is aimed at spreading out arrivals and it does a good job. Inevitably, though, there is some bunching and some quieter spells. If you arrived at a quieter time, it was probably for this reason, rather than due to no-shows,
Alan.

Thanks for clarifying this Alan.
I was one who had no choice but to turn back due to the cloud bank at Peterborough & I did phone as soon as I shut down back at Sandtoft to Cancel & apologise & the guy who answered the phone was very nice & sympathetic towards me.
Cheers Trev

Shame about the cloud, Trev, the forecast and metars didn't show many problems, so you were really unlucky. You'll just have to fly down to Duxford another time. Your call was appreciated - it saved us worrying about your no-show and also freed up your slot. See you in May? or next Safety Day?

Had an excellent day and learned quite a bit: I won't be quite so scared of calling D&D in the future, should I need to, something I wouldn't have considered before! (Mea culpa)
Airfield & environs fabulous, food good and we were made very welcome by all - sincere thanks.

Flyer Magazine Bonus Day
Hi All. Tomorrow is the day for the Flyer Magazine Bonus Day at Duxford which has the makings of a great day. The Flyer Mag team will be there accompanied by ex Harrier test pilot John Farley who will be giving a talk. Two demonstrator aircraft will be there - an Extra and a Breezer B600 for demo flights and for those who would like to get to know the museum better, we have guided tours laid on. The weather looks a little mixed although it is only "tempo" so we might be ok. Ring the tower on 01223 833376 for PPR and a briefing. See you there.

It's a lovely morning at Duxford at 7 a.m. Here's the Stansted Metar (although showers and stronger winds are forecast for the afternoon):
