No reason to hide who I am.
Too much trouble to spell out my surname, which nearly everyone mis-spells any way as Nicholson. Nicholls, or variants of.
How about another thread - Pruners I would like to konw better but don't - a sort of not-friends-yet, unreunited.

would get my vote. At least they are easy to work out. It took me ages to work out Dan Winterland and Lou Scannon. Felt rather silly
when I realised.
Mine's related to the Wessex control linkages, but the actual term Sloppy Link was already taken.
Post on other places as Boecopter, which is descriptive of my schizophrenic career...

I have met a few from these forums one who is a good drinking buddy. I find the flying world is a very small one and I am sure many are people we already know but dont realise we are talking too.
Some are names we respect for the knowledge they bring I could name a few but dont but we know they are the real deal.
Others may portray themselves as whatever when they are not! Then we have the trouble seekers or the trolls or even the press disguised. We probably even get people in authority reading these posts and I am sure a few who try to direct a thread to their way of thinking.
The fact that they are anonymous allows us to speak freely. You can always PM an individual for more detail.

I'm in the same category as Mike Cross. Interestingly, I'm also (originally) from Portsmouth - perhaps that's the root cause of our startling lack of originality?
As an aside, I've never really tried to hide behind anonymity on the Internet. If there's something I daren't say under my real name I'd rather just not say it at all. I'm loving some of the names in this thread, though.

In 1853 my name sake flew the first glider in the UK; Brompton Vale Yorkshire to be precise.
He was the father of aeronautics amongst many other attributes and was so far ahead of his time his achievements still amaze me.
I wanted to commemorate his life and adopted it as my 'handle'.

Jan Olieslagers was a famous early aviator and a WW I ace. He has a statue at the entrance to Antwerp Airport EBAW where I hung around in the rosy days of long ago. There's solid self-irony too, as he was nicknamed "the Antwerp daredevil" whereas myself used to scream in turns beyond 30° during my first lessons; not to mention straight-ahead stalls that scared me out of my wits as soon as I lost sight of the horizon. I'm not keen on them even today, though I have demonstrated them on several tests.

My forum name is really rather rubbish, I know. As soon as I signed up, it felt like a mistake - a display of lack of imagination. But then again, it was my first-ever forum and I hadn't worked out the game at that point........
Mary - I was interested to see your mention of the Soupdragon. I used to 'belong' to an informal group of golfers who called ourselves the Soupdragons. We loved to drink soup, before, after and even during, a round of golf, and I thought that was all there was to it. I never enquired as to where the name came from. On seeing your post, I googled it, and according to Wiki - so it must be true - it comes from the Clangers TV show. Whilst I do remember the Clangers as being a programme, I am much too old to have watched it. Well, I've learned something at any rate....
My next post may be under a different name.
