I'm undertaking a course on innovation and design, and I'm required to come up with a product idea.

I think I can see where you're going with this, but please please please don't even suggest a "pre-recorded message" even for research. Even if it might be legal, we controllers need to speak to the pilot, not his answering-machine.

Did you ever see the SkyForce Locator product? Pager-size. It took a GPS input and turned it into a single line of ASCII like "5 miles North East of Corby". I don't know what happened to that family of products when they were bought out by Bendix-King.
