West Wales (Aberporth) closed weekends - why

I had several great flights to West Wales (Aberporth) a few years ago and fancied going again a few weeks back. A quick check of Notams however showed it to be closed at weekends until 'perm'.

Anyone know why this is the case?

It's a real shame as this was a fantastic destination for a day trip.

Called in there a couple of months back and during the course of conversation we were told that they would be closing at weekends. Purely down to economics. The operators have to pay somebody to be there on the odd chance that somebody might fly in and pay a landing fee. Number of takers were such that they weren't covering costs.

Hmnn...I live only 10 miles away from Aberporth. Might be interested in the weekend job if they offer reduced hangarage fees.
Who should I contact?

Give the airfield a ring during operating hours. There is a staff of about three so you shouldn't have a problem locating the Main Man.

There is no hangarage currently available. The only hangar is leased to MOD for UAVs.

The man to contact is Barrie Forster, the Aerodrome Manager. He and his staff are great folks.
