Can PICus hours be counted as currency for PPL
I have logged hours as PICUS (pilot in command under supervision) which was when I was flying and was sole manipulator of the controls but had an instructor beside me. This was for check outs and similar things. Do these count as PIC in terms of the 6 hours need to keep my SEP rating current. (along with 6 other hours & 1 hour with CFI)

In the UK CFI usually means "Chief Flying Instructor" and you only require a mere ordinary common or garden variety instructor if that is all you can find.
Of course you might be able to find an instructor who is happy to be just "a passenger" in which case you would indeed be P1

Unless you flew as PICUS in the FAA system (N-reg, FAA PPL and FAA CFI), and now want to use those hours to revalidate a JAA PPL. In which case you're essentially opening a big can of worms...
You would really have to look up the exact definition of PIC under JAA, and see if it applies to you. Probably not.

Check pages 44-45 of: LASORS - GENERAL INFORMATION - it goes into details of the conditions for P1, PIC U/S, P/UT, ....
For most PPLs the only relevant "Cases" are A, G, J, L & N.
Case 'J' specifically deals with PIC U/S.
As far as I can see, in your case, you can't count the time spent with an instructor as P1 for the purposes of re-validation - UNLESS you logged it as P1 AND the instructor did not log the flight (or logged it as SNY).
(Requirements for revalidation by flying experience can be found on P10-11 of:TYPE AND CLASS RATING (AEROPLANES AND HELICOPTERS))

What kind of kneeboard is it best to use to note the time down? What's the best GPS to use for the flight? Can you recommend appropriate sunglasses in case it's sunny? Oh, and how many bars should I wear on my epaulettes while PICUS, is that different to when I log P2 in a C150?

More folds = more important

I prefer to older, better proven version. Can't rely on it until it's been in use for at least 3 decades.

These are probably appropriate.
