Checked with Deputy CFI this lunchtime. Sherburn's runways are all OK. So subject to weather, the fly-in is ON tomorrow. I'll be there from about 10:30 - look for me at G- (Grumman Cheetah) or I'll be near the bar organizing the chips for lunch!
Our Master Diversion Airfield in case it cloudbursts overnight will be York (Rufforth) which has a metalled strip.
We have clearance to hop over to Breighton to visit the historic aircraft collection any time during the day....
My mobile is ......if you want to call last minute reference the conditions on the ground at Sherburn....

I won't now be leaving GAM until 11'ish as the new group owner needs to bash the circuit and I have told him that he can have the aircraft first thing then fly me to the rally... if I consider it suitable.
Have been on the M62 today not far from Sherburn and it was absolutely pee-ing it down... 500 metres and headlights on.
We have had a lot of water up north... it's one thing getting in...getting out is another.
I have a responsibility to the other owners and will not jepoardise the aircraft.
As you have probably gathered I would have preferred concrete in the circumstances.
Expect me if you see me,
B
PS Breighton is a tighter grass strip.

Beagler - sorry you sound a bit reluctant. Would you rather land at Rufforth and check it out for the future? - we'll pop over and pick you up for lunch and take you back again afterwards. Alternatively, if you give me a ring before 9:30 tomorrow, I'll divert via Gamston and collect you....(I'm coming from Ottringham)

From last night's postings I thought that we would make a democratic decision with inputs from everyone based on the conditions, aircraft types, experience and distances to travel in possible marginal weather.
I am familiar with Sherburn and it is prone to be boggy and will not make MY decision on the say of a deputy CFI.
Wet grass, standing water (maybe)and light winds are not good with tricycles... I will make my decision tomorrow and will not be shamed into making a trip... cowardice prolongs an active flying career.
Might even borrow a different aircraft for the trip.
Would hate to see the first fly in including a prang or diversions.
As I said... expect me if you see me.
PS also familiar with Rufforth, some of my early solos were undertaken there back in the 1970s.

An exagerated "yarn" posting has nothing to do with my decision tomorrow... I am very familiar with grass and believe it deserves more respect than most pilots offer.
Please stop trying to shame me into a decision... I will make my risk assessment in the morning.
I stand by all my comments.
We will no doubt meet up some time.

I'm with Beagler on this except I have already made my decision. I won't be comming tomorrow, a shame really as I started it all off. I have 6 other owners to take into account.
I may go somewhere with Concrete as I have the plane all day.
Sorry Chaps, lets do it again next year, or later this year to somewhere with Concrete.

Bad vis here too.
Makes the dispute about runway conditions at our destination of little consequence.
Let's try for October, hopefully in a dry spell... and I'll treat y'all to a demonstration of my grass strip technique
A sincere round of thanks for rightstuffer's efforts... sorry if I seemed a bit prickly, I did intend to ask any pilots arriving at Gamston during the day about the runways... Sherburn regularly send qualifiers into Gamston.
Has anyone phoned Whirly?

Called Sherburn at 08:30 this morning. They're fogged in with viz below 1000m. From the threads above, it looks like the fly-in is off.
Beagler - sorry if I sounded a bit pushy earlier - I still haven't got used to finding the right words in this 'written conversation' format.
Shall I put a new thread up to let everyone know that the Flyin is off for today and will be rearranged for later?
