Lets have some views on this emotive subject.ie.Where and when to do it.Just a quick spoke in the wheel not many years ago a representitive of our govening body suggested it be done well away from the airfield. So as not to worry the locals and invoke rule 5 of the A.N.O. I will leave this for a day or two as I have probs with my I.S.P. BYE FOR NOW.

A&C sorry having ajob finding this forum can you point me in the right direction. Whatever it says & whatever anyone says the place to carry out this drill is where and when it is most likely to happen . this will hopefully give the student the best possible chance of survival in the unlikely event.Any rule 5 unless for take off and landing or something.Perhaps I am too old for this and not NIMBY FRIENDLY enough. What say you AL. as one who knows I.

As a student learning to fly this year and having carried out a number of EFATOs with my instructor, I am left in no doubt that I am well equiped to deal with such an emergency. Not sure if I would feel quite the same way if I had carrid them out miles away from the airport after settling in and getting used to being airbourne. Wouldn't it be nice if the safety of trainee pilots were a prime consideration in flight training?

Most pilots are aware of what the fields ahead of their home runways are like ready for such emergencies.
The ill fated Concorde pilot had probably been through the actions of banking towards Le Bourget in an emergency before in his mind.
That must be an arguement for practicing at your home field.

Found the EFATO discussions on instructor forum . wish I had never said anything, well not quite, all I can say is I always tried to make said exersise as realistic as poss without being cavalier.I guess thats the best we can do for the students and if someone objects take it from there.
