Best Flying Clubs close to London
Hello,
(I know this question has cropped up a few times before but all the archived threads I found were quite dated)
I'm looking for a good flying club where I can rent a PA28 regularly for UK/Cross channel touring, can renew my IMC and can do my night rating.
Ideally I’d like somewhere with a bit of club atmosphere but my main priority is to find somewhere that has a decent sized fleet of well maintained PA28s, experienced instructors and that aren't going to rip me off at the first opportunity.
(I'll be steering well clear of anything run by cabair from prior experience)
I know WLAC at WW and the Airways club at booker are good but they are the other side of London from me now, so was thinking of maybe one of the Biggin Hill clubs? Was wondering if any one had any other suggestions?
Thanks very much.

Yep from looking at the various Biggin Hill flying club websites, this lot stood out. Already given them a call to arrange a checkout.
Thanks for the advice.

Where exactly are you near London? I guess by your comment you are South of the river. If so, I can't really help. But North London however, gives you Stapleford, Elstree and Panshanger. Panshanger has 2 cherokee's, 2 archers and a saratoga. All well maintained and a great atmosphere.
Welcome

Modern Air has the best fleet of Piper in the UK, with tiptop on site maintenance and paperwork, a great ops and CFI (Dereck Gunning), a grass runway like a snooker table and on site night rating or IMC ratings (and renewals).
Fowlmere (EGMA) is right next to Duxford in Hertfordshire.
The club is so good i stayed with them when i lived east of Norwich as well as when I lived in the Cottswolds....

I'm in Clapham now. When I lived in London before I was in Islington so White Waltham or Wycombe were fine, if need be i'll go out that way but it's a bit of a hike.
VanHorck-Thanks for that it looks excellent, I never would have come across it. Long way to go but certainly looks tempting..
Cheers

Visited Denham yesterday as I am looking for some flying close to Islington.
Cabair have expensive rates and will not pay for any landing fee's, plus they have fuel surcharges.
The Pilot centre across the airfield (aside from having an amazing cafe next door to it) has a decent set of rates with a good fleet of 152's 182's and PA28's. All their prices include VAT, landing fees and insurance. Their membership is also good value.
