Netherthorpe International Airport
I see from the notams taht Netherthorpe Airfield in the Peoples Republic of West Yorkshire, is closed to visiting aircraft until 31 Dec 2001.
Anyone know what's going on?
I don't particularly want to fly in there, it used to be one of my local airfields and I always enjoyed the challenge of the short (400m or so) runway with a wall at one end and a ditch at the other. The folk there were always a friendly bunch as well, it would be a great shame if things have gone tits up.

Netherthorpe was on the Nottinghamshire/Socialist Democratic People's Republic of South Yorkshire border when I last looked at map. Nowhere near West Yorkshire (horrible place).

Spoonbill, Which Notam (date and issue) are you referring to? There is certainly no mention of Netherthorpe being closed to visiting aircraft on the NATS (daily updated) aerodrome information sheet.

I asked for the date of the notam because I can find no such notam. Spoonbill has not replied. Also, the staff at Netherthorpe didn't know anything of this closure when I telephoned them this morning.
I have therefore concluded that this is a hoax. The motive does rather puzzle me though.
For the record, Netherthorpe is not closed to visiting aircraft.

I haven't got current Notams - family holiday time. But the latest Pilot (I have to have something to read!) has: From the Notams etc. (August page 15) "Netherthorpe is closed to visiting aircraft until 31 December".
So there is something written, just it may be incorrect?

No Hoax!, unfortunately I saw it the latest Pilot mag' which is usually pretty reliable, I didn't think to cross check it with the current notams, as like I said, I don't particularly want to go there.
I would never post malicious/ knowingly innacurate material, and apologies for any offence caused to anyone at Netherthorpe.
