Garmin GPS 'ShareHardware'

Fed up of paying Garmins prices for datalink leads/power leads etc?.
Found the following web site which has a 'shareware' system for obtaining Garmin GPS plugs & leads.
http://www.pfranc.com
Either obtain plugs and make leads yourself or obtain completed leads.
'Purchase' is via a 'pledge' system, you 'donate' what you wish to 'pledge' to order the goods.
Personally I feel this creates competition and may drive Garmin into providing better value in future.
Anyone used this method of purchase yet?, I have not but am thinking about it.

Leads are easy to make, just need to be able to use a soldering iron and follow instructions.
Plugs available on my link are also used for power leads not just data links.
There is loads of shareware downloads for Garmin 3 'Street' Pilot but none found for aviation.
I have even found a site that downloads info to convert my Nokia 7110 mobile phone into a Radar Detector!
There are some clever boys out there!.
