Very sad news
As a West Berks. based PA28-flying PPL, who
was in the air in the vicinity of the Compton VOR (close to the Lambourn Downs) at 1500Z this afternoon (roughly when this happened)...a bit close to home as well.
Sincere condolences to all at Thruxton and to the poor families of those involved

An eye witness report suggested some form of catastrophic wing failure.Police in the area are searching for "an object"seen to fall from the aircraft approximately 1nm from the crash site.
AAIB on site.
A very sad day for General aviation and all those at Thruxton.

Condolences to all involved, family, friends and operators. PA-28 Arrow reported by young eyewitness as losing a wing or part of it. May all those souls on board rest in peace.

I fly from Thruxton...there's only 1 club there and only one Piper Arrow - which I have flown many hours on this year.
I may have been using it that day had I not been hour building in USA.
Makes you wonder about fate, doesn't it?
Again, I reiterate the condolences to the families involved.

One of my first students (from NZ) flies at Thruxton (hi DK), thankfully he hasn't got his Arrow rating yet, but still a bit close to home even from the other side of the world (and it's a small world for a pilot).
Sincere condolences to all at Thruxton, all nice people from what I hear.
Has anyone got a non-dated link to a report, or did someone save one, these are all out of date...
