Does Manchester Airport need Mode S?
Can someone kindly point me in the right direction of the document that lists the latest UK airports / CTAs that are notified for mandatory carriage of a Mode S transponder? My query at the moment is specifically to Manchester Airport and whether they demand it or not.

Kiltie,
No airport in the UK requires Mode-S. There is however, Mode-S only Class A airspace for IFR operations. Clearly at say LHR in Mode-S Class A airspace you will need said transponder (and an IR and ideally two turbine engines or a helicopter). But at Manch all you need is to time your arrival outside the busy price window and bring a medium size wodge of cash for handling.

Manchester is good for Mode A/C until 31st March 2012 assuming the conditions required are met.
See UK AIP GEN 1-5-14 for the current transponder carriage requirements.
