Diesel Fuel Cap
Morning All
I am on the lookout for a supplier of a fuel cap for the diesel 172 that I fly. I found similar items on Aircraft Spruce's website but alas they are too small.
The item in question is 90mm in diameter and 55mm deep and is stamped as SPRL Fuel Systems. The mechanism on it is a lift and twist of a central tab.
Once I figure out the uploading of images (again!) I will get pictures posted...

Though I don't have a direct answer for your 172, I am working through that same issue right now with a 182 we are converting to diesel. I have found an original set of late 70's "flush" caps, which I remembered from my early 182 flying days. These have the same flush cap as many turbine aircraft of the day. Due to poor maintenance, and a weak design application of "O" rings, service bulletins resulted in a lot of them being changed out. They are, however, a direct replacement part for the 182 which will allow Jet fuel nozzles in.
I am certain that the entire Cessna plate to which the cap assembly is secured will not fit the 172 wing. However, it might be adaptable. As long as the "O" rings of these older caps are well maintained, and the tank sumps are checked for water frequently, they are fine. One additional cautionary note on these is that when colsed, it is vital that they sit flush and level with the wing surface. If they are allowed to stick up on one side, they will leak in flight.
