Regardless, I should clarify: the frequency of my flying WILL increase from the summer onwards. When I say onwards, I mean, from the summer it will increase to more than 1 a month. Period. So that will make me a safer and more current pilot. So we're all happy.

I don't see the problem, as from the very beggining I knew that I would take the pace slowly at first (for aforementioned leaglities), then have a "final hurdle" increase to getting the licence. From there on, the frequency can increase as the cost per hour will be reduced.
Please, please - for the sake of yourself, and any future passengers you may have - fly more often!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There we go. I've addressed the point, and I'm satisified it is the correct course to take.

A final note. My previous post was relating to what I had done so far, it was not an indication I planned to maintain that pace for the course of the PPL.

As I previously mentioned, there are legal age issues which mean I cannot blitz the course in a few months, as much as I would like to.
I'm not here to evoke snarky responses from anyone, I'm simply trying to justify my reasoning behind the rate of my lessons, and display that I was/am aware that flying cannot be sustained for 1 hour a month.

I think up until this point, it has been the correct thing to do, but as I've hopefully addressed in the post, since the first age hurdle is over, things can continue at a brisker (therefore safer) pace.

I was a teenage PPL student myself and have taught many more since then. Believe me when I say, your age and attitude is massively important. Age helps because you learn quickly, however teenagers generally have little fear or even understanding of danger. I didn't. That can be very dangerous, though it can sometimes be useful to the FI.

A bit of p*ss and vinegar is alright, but be very careful not to come across as arrogant. I can assure you that you know naff all about flight training and the best ways of doing it though at the moment.

Do you realise that you can take the test before you are 17 and then just have the licence issued on your 17th birthday? You don't have to wait, so I don't understand your point about there needing to be a delay because of your age. You are obviously over 16 if you have already gone first solo.

I've trained a number of people of your age to allow them to solo on their 16 birthday and have their license issued on their 17th. So this isn't a new thing.

How will your cost per hour reduce as you do more flying?

BTW 92.5% in PPL air law counts as "OK, but could do better."

Congratulations on the first solo though. It is a big step.

Actually, I wasn't aware of that. I have evidently misinterpreted all of the definitions surrounding licence issue (probably why I didn't get 100%). Now it's my turn to say "wow." Thanks for that information. I'll talk this over with the school. That's the frequency point well and truly dealt with now!

I meant after gaining a licence. You're not paying the fee for an instructor then, and you can cost-share with other pilots (although not necessarily). It will only be a small reduction, but it will all add up to another hour that I wouldn't otherwise have.

Regards the 92.5% - I actually changed 2 correct answers to wrong ones, I second guessed myself and it turned out to be wrong. That does indicate insecurity regards to those points that I got wrong, but I was debriefed and noted the points to work on. 100% is always the target, and yes, I realise I've fallen short.

Good stuff. In that case 92.5% comes in as "Bl**dy annoying as it should have been 100%."

Have a chat with the school and if they don't agree, tell them to read LASORS and maybe ring Flight Crew Licensing. The CAA say that the licence cannot be issued and the priveleges of the licence can't be used before your 17th birthday, it doesn't say that you can't do the test.
If they still argue, tell Ted to ring me!

It was a long time ago, but I did my PPL with Edinburgh Flying Club.

One of the major benefits of learning to fly at Edinburgh was that I was not uncomfortable flying into other international airports (Glasgow, Birmingham, Leeds etc.).

Over the years I have flown with many other pilots who trained at small airfields and were simply too scared to visit a large “airport”.

I'm terrified of going to big airports nowadays. My credit card shakes in fear of the "handling" fees.
