Gibraltar

Hi all,

I'm visiting Gibraltar this month for a few days and while I'm there would like to hire a puddle jumper for a couple or hours pleasure flying. I can't fnd any schools in Gibraltar so does anybody know the nearest place in Spain to get an aircraft.

Cheers

Closest place to Gib for rental is Jerez. There are a couple of options there, it takes about 40 minutes or so to drive from Gib.

After you've spent 3 1/2 hours getting across the border.

You won't find any in Gib, but as Bose has said in Jerez (Fly-in-Spain) and also Malaga (Aerodynamics) - more precisely Axarquia, east of Malaga. Google them.

And then make sure you have read everything you possibly can about landing at Gib in all the various wind conditions. Some days, it is simply impossible.

My favourite recollection was coming down finals on 27 and going from flight idle to full chat about five times before planting it on the end of the runway.

Mind you, I had the drawback of only having four engines to play with. It would have been much easier in a PA28.

I think I'm right in saying that you can't fly from Gibraltar to Spain due to the Anglo-Spanish 'situation' and attendant airspace/airport restrictions?

Which is one reason why there are no flying clubs in Gib, as there would be nowhere to go (except round and round the island).

Whether this is still the case I don't know (and haven't checked).

Singapore manage yet you can't even go round and round the island, only round and round a tiny bit of airspace with hardly any time to hold the wings level!

Flew in to Gib last year with three Euroopa,s, No problem but It need's 24H ppr via a fax machine, No Avgas available but the nice staff airside let us bring in Mogas from a nearby petrol station, well worth the trip if the wind is fair,

I read it on the Web last year as I was considering a position in Gib.
Just shows that not everything you read on the Web is up to date!

I've just found a comprehensive Thread on PPRuNe dated 2006 which confirms my comments so things must have changed fairly recently and not 'years ago'!?
