Name that place
Here's a question for regular flyers in the area S of Gatwick. Recently I flew on the route Alresford-MID-Billingshurst-Burgess hill(S)-Cranbrook; somewhere (I think on the leg to Keymer) I saw what looked like a huge school or monastery just to the N of track. Unfortunately I didn't mark it on the chart and it would be interesting to find-out what it was.
It was rectangular (long axis roughly E-W), walled, the E end had a large house built-in to the wall, the central area was divided into two grassed courtyards by a large church-like building which was about a quarter of the way from E to W, the western grassed-area seemed to be ringed by houses built-in to the wall.
I've failed to track it down with Google earth and google maps - any ideas?

No prize I'm afraid.
It looked like a very old estate, a vast public school, or a monastery - no cars visible (and definitely outside controlled airspace!)

I never cease to be amazed at the power of the web!
Thank you Mr Blink for solving my mystery. It looks a fascinating place (I assume that the Carthusians are not short of money

2 possibilities come to mind, but for one you were way orf track.
Lancing College north of London Brighton International, or
Sheffield Park near Haywards Heath.
Can't post pix as I'm a 'puter numpty, as well as being several hundred years old.

Thanks for the offer Sir George but the mystery is now solved.
Now get back to Brompton dale and try improving your influencer - I saw a copy of your glider flying at Lasham about 20 years ago and it looked like it still needed a little development work.
