Landing at KMIA

Hi there,

Going to do some flying in the States next month, and am wondering if anyone has landed at Miami Intl. If so, would appreciate any advice you may have as in what is required to do this.

I understand there are landing fee's, which I presume would be for the FBO? But in any case would be grateful to hear from anyone who has done this and can provide some advice.

Many thanks... SC

Funny, I was there just yesterday.
The county actually imposes the landing fee and it is very reasonable, we paid $28 for a DA-42.
The FBO will charge an additional handling fee and a parking fee on top of the landing fee. Expect to pay in excess of $100 for a light single at Signature.
AirNav: KMIA - Miami International Airport
Go to the "General Aviation Center" instead, they only charge the landing fee.
Apart from restrooms no other facilities though.
GA usually lands on 8L, expect to turn off a "Z" and the building is just to your right (GAC). http://204.108.4.16/d-tpp/0910/00257AD.PDF
It's a little easier going into Miami Int. if you file IFR and you can expect to be told to keep your speed up until short final.
Yesterday they were using 8L,8R , runway 9 and 12 all at the same time for arrivals and departures.

Many thanks B2N2 for your reply.

So if my understanding is correct, if I do not use Signature, but rather only the General Aviation Center, the only charge I would incur would be the $28 county landing fee? Can I ask aside from these charges, in terms of admin, would I not need to request PPR or get a slot for this arrival and subsequent departure?

And also with regards to the General Aviation Center, do you know if they would allow picking up of passengers from there?

Many thanks in advance and also for the previous post, has been very helpful.

Regards, SC

I landed at KMIA however this was due to an in flight Emergency and the fact that i could not maintain VFR. I was firstly told to go back to Opa Locka then to Baco Raton. But ended up in KMIA. Great experience now. But at the time crapping it. Parked at Signiture came out with a bill of $200. GUTTED!!

As a general rule, the USA uses a 'first come, first served' policy for the use of its airports. You are free to fly into any public use airport you like, with few exceptions. Fill yer boots with large international airports or small local ones, whichever takes your fancy.

The GA facility at KMIA is there for.....GA! And to collect the county fee, of course. But no flashy building, lounges or other FBO-type services. Load & unload your pax and have a piss is about all that's offered.

Just a thought though: Is KMIA the nearest airport to where your pax need to go or come from? There's a large number of airports up & down the Florida coast, including around Miami, so KMIA is not necessarily the most convenient.

True, but lately some of the FBO's at these satellite airports have been charging hefty handling fees; especially Signature so KMIA might be the cheaper option.
Have a look at AirNav and search for these airports for more info.
Send them an email or call them to find out how much they charge. For an interactive map of the Miami area click here:

*** Forgot to tell you on the previous post: park the aircraft some distance from the building, not right up to it. The parking ramp is on the access side for Customs and they get antsy if you park a plane there that they have not been notified about. Leave some space for aircraft that need to go to customs.
For GAC you need the side entrance to the building, on the runway side, not the entry on the parking ramp side ***
