Flying clubs in the Southampton Area

Hi all,

Have been looking into flying clubs in the Southampton area, as I may be living there in the near future, but am unsure which would be best to go to to keep up my PPL.

There is only limited information about the Southampton flying club, and I was hoping that some one here may be able to recommend a good club in the area. Other than Southampton, Bembridge (lovely place, been there many times but am unaware of a flying club as such), Bournemouth, Sandown and Popham seem more obvious options, but I would appreciate it if any one who knows/is based at any of these clubs (or the Soton area) could point me in the right direction!

Many Thanks

S

OLd Sarum is probably the nearest and most accessible from Southampton. It seems to have everything one would want from a flying club.

Worth visiting every place in person if you can. You'll get to drive the route as well, Compton Abbas might be a bit more difficult against places like BFC at Bournemouth or OSFS at Old Sarum Airfield.

Also consider Western Air Training at THRUXTON. It's an easy drive from Southampton, has hard & grass runway as well PAPIs and limited night flying.

Does anyone know if Southampton Eastleight is taking light aircraft? I went there in a cirrus a year ago, stayed overnight with handling and the bill was astronomical. I think it came to over 200 quid in the end. But last week I downloaded a list of costs from the airfield and found out that their landing costs were more like 30 quid - not exactly cheap but ok if you wanted to get into Portsmouth in bad weather.
