ESFC Fly In and Display, Tatenhill, 8th August

East Staffordshire Flying Club, 2009 Fly-in

On Saturday, 8th August, the ESFC will be holding their annual fly-in at Tatenhill Airfield, EGBM.

The day will be run along similar lines previous events (hopefully with better weather this year!), with all monies raised going to our resident charity, the County Air Ambulance Trust.

There will be flying displays from Mark Jefferies in the Extra 330SC & Genna Elfimov in the Yak-52.

Margaret will be serving coffees/teas and cakes in the clubhouse, the BBQ will be running for those with an appetite and an ice-cream van has been arranged.

Subject to the weather leading up to the event, we hope to have the grass runway reinstated for the day as well as the usual 1000m+ of hard runway (26/08). We'd really like to see a good turnout of permit aircraft as we have few based at Tatenhill (and it makes cutting the grass worthwhile!)

Tatenhill Aviation, the airfield operators, have kindly offered to waive landing fees on the day, but we would kindly ask that all arrivals make a donation to the Air Ambulance.

Sorry, no non-radio arrivals or weight shift microlights. (Airfield policy, not ours!)

If you require any further details, please post a reply or pm me.

Jon Faulkner

A quick nudge to bring the topic back up from the depths of the forum.

Only a few days to go!

Thanks for the information Jon. This has been an excellent fly in and display over the last few years so I'll definitely be there.

Times for displays

Times of the aero displays as follows:

1. GENNADY ELFIMOV - YAK 52 at 14.15pm
2. MARK JEFFRIES - EXTRA 330SC at 15.00pm

Gennady Elfimov, Russian CPL, professional aerobatic instructor. He is a graduate of Moscow Aviation Institute and worked for seven years with the Flight Research Institute. He was trained originally by DOSAAF the central Flight Training entity of the USSR. He was a member of Moscow aerobatic team, competed in national aerobatic competitions for five years. If you have been to the last two events then Gena will need no introduction, other than the fact that there is nothing that he cannot do in a Yak, a truly awesome display! Without doubt the world master display pilot for the Yak 52.

Mark Jeffries the 9 times British aerobatic champion (ADV & UNL) has spectacular manoeuvres, tumbles, spins in the Extra 330SC leaving pilots saying "how did he do that?" Mark flies the Extra 330SC the latest designed fully certified aerobatic aircraft performing specialist unlimited aerobatic aircraft used at world contest. With 320 hp and lightweight carbon fibre structure, the Extras have a climb-rate of 3,000 ft/min (at a 45 degree angle) and a cruising speed of up to 200 mph. They are stressed to plus/minus 23G, and have a roll-rate of a staggering 400 deg/sec.

Hope to see you there!

Due to standing water, the grass runway will be unusable. The hard runway and parking will still be available. Look forward to seeing everyone.

For once the weather played ball and was blue skies and sunny all day!

Thanks to all those who attended. Even though we had to make a decision to close the grass runway on Friday due to standing water we had 40+ visiting aircraft and 800+ visitors on the day. The two aero displays were excellent and it was very interesting to see the difference in display between Gena in the Yak-52 and Mark in his Extra330 from a spectators viewpoint.

One lucky pilot went away with a Garmin GPS296 for a £5 raffle ticket, and someone else managed to get the Av80R for a good price in the auction.

An excellent collection of classic cars added to the event.

The Air Ambulance was called out a few times during the day and although we do not have the final figure we would expect to have raised about £2.5K in donations for this very worthwhile cause.

Now for next year....

Doh!!

If you go to Flickr...

Flickr: Jonathan Fletcher Photography's Photostream

There are some excellent photos taken by Jonathan of the ESFC Fly-In & Display, including visiting aircraft. He is a very talented photographer (purely hobby at present) and his photos are worth a look.

Enjoy!
