ORS 4 No. 711

The CAA has now confirmed that there are effectively 2 options for non-NPPL holders flying under the ORS 4 No.711 exemption:

1. Revalidate the SEP Class Rating exactly as under JAR-FCL (apart from the medical requirements).

2. Apply to the CAA for inclusion of a SSEA Class Rating in the non-NPPL (which will probably incur a Rating variation fee), then revalidate under SSEA requirements thereafter.

A non-NPPL holder with a SEP Class Rating may not, therefore, revalidate that Rating under SSEA requirements. This was always the intention; however, confusion seems to have existed due to misunderstanding.

If you are flying under ORS4 No. 711 and you have neither a valid SEP Class Rating nor a valid SSEA Class Rating, you must either renew the SEP Class Rating as under JAR-FCL or apply to the CAA for inclusion of a SSEA Class Rating in your licence after first passing the SSEA Skill Test (same as the NPPL GST).

If your licence (not Rating) has expired and you cannot hold a JAA Medical Certificate, you will have to apply for a NPPL as a JAR-FCL licence cannot be issued without a JAA Medical Certificate.
