Arrow GAPAN J N Somers Scholarship 2010

The Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators is very pleased to announce that, thanks to the continuing generosity of Mrs P Somers, it is again able to award the J N Somers Scholarship, one of the most generous and prestigious awards available to the trainee aviator
The J.N. Somers Scholarship 2010 will provide funding, through GAPAN, for a full-time course of Air and Ground studies leading to the award of a frozen JAA ATPL. It includes a JOC/MCC module.
The Scholarship covers direct training and examination costs, any associated travel, and accommodation expenses.
Since the Scholarship was instigated in 1999, all 'Somers Scholars' have secured successful flying jobs with airlines soon after completing their training.
TIMETABLE:
  • The selection process will be carried out this year, and the lucky winner will begin training in Spring 2009.
  • Completed application forms must be returned to the Guild office by no later than 15th June 2009.
16 July 2009: Morrisby Testing at the City University London on the 16th July for short-listed applicants.

6 August 2009: Aptitude Testing at RAF Cranwell for the final 3 or 4 candidates.

13 August 2009: Candidates will be notified of the result.

Spring 2010: Training at a JAA-approved training organisation, selected by GAPAN from the most suitable available world-wide.
  • Further information including a summary of the selection criteria and a downloadable Application Form with full details of eligibility can be obtained by clicking on the GAPAN crest below -

Thank you so much for this link, much appreciated. Quick question, it asks for 2 recent examples of leadsership and responsibility (eg. ATC, CCF etc). I left the ATC about 3 years ago when I was 17, is that recent enough? Since then I have done a Round-the-World trip and begun work as an Airline Ops Controller and not sure if either of these will qualify as good examples in their eyes.

IMHO and FWIW, both would qualify.

Lots of advice posted on this thread in the Interviews, Jobs and Sponsorship forum -
