What's happening at Oban?

After all the heated discussion it seems things have gone quite at Oban. Did the air service do what it promised and are things back to normal with the FBO and the airport?

This was taken off the oban site!

Oban Airport
This airfield is open 7 days a week from 09:00 to 18:00hrs (local time). It has a new 1264m long runway.

hope this helps!

I thought we all knew it had a new runway. That was what all the fuss was about. Is anybody using it and are there lots of commercial flights in place to pay for the massive costs which I believe are around £9 million

Great facility. Not much queing at the holding points.
Its a bit like when a grand ship is abandoned on the sea bed all the little fish (GA) move in to their new grand environment.

I take it you havent been to Oban in a while. Where is all the GA you are talking about?? I aint seen much of it. The summer was poor and the winter so far aint much better. We get a few in now and again but nothing to write home about. So yes it could be a GA hub but nothing like it at this time.

Sorry. Trying to put a positive slant on things.
I was in a couple of weeks ago and there were a few others buzzing around but the days are a bit short just now.

It hasn't stopped me visiting but there is a certain attraction to visiting an uncontrolled field.
I can't see closing the other runway makes much difference as it wasn't much different to 01/19.
The published 3 hours ppr. Now that is a put off to those not in the know.
The £15 landing fee is slightly too high. I am in the retail business and it's amazing how a small price adjustment makes the difference between a sale and no sale.
Perhaps the council could put together a deal including Mull as well as Colonsay ETC? I believe there are some ideas being discussed.

It's not so long ago that 3 of our 8 based aircraft (just over an hour away on the dark side ... sorry ... east side of the country) flew over for lunch.

But as has been pointed out the days are short and the weather isn't exactly helping.

We try and visit as often as we can!

Anybody got a clue why they want 3 hours PPR? It can't be for traffic sequencing!

When I phoned for PPR I was asked for ETA, "one hour fifteen". "No problem see you later".
Suggest you phone & ask.

If you forget to PPR, give me a call at Scottish Info 119.875, I will make a quick phone call on your behalf and I know the response will normally be good......as for Oban being quiet at times that does not seem to me to be the case .......as most aircraft call me on the way over there in the past few weeks when weather has been fine I have talked at times to a steady stream inbound!!

eg BGA 869 'BCU' T21 Sedbergh

Grtz,

There used to be an active Gliding Club at North Connel.

How are they doing these days?
I'd reckon that there are five other Gliding Sites in Scotland.

Sport Aviation is getting less and less these days.

I never did read the Oban thread as it became too long to fully understand. Anyone care to explain it all in one concise summary?

Willy wave about alleged excessive council expenditure, poor planning and bully boy tactics against those who wanted Oban to stay as it had always been.
