Highland Flying Club and HAC
If HFS gave 28 days notice that they were to move out of the HAC premises, it seems vindictive of the HAC committee to respond by giving them 3 days notice to get out, forcing them into extra work and expence, and affecting students during the unexpected move.

For someone sitting so far away, you have a very narrow perspective on certain aspects of this turning point with regards to your comments on future memberships. Specifically you fail to consider individuals who may now wish to JOIN the aero club as a result of the HFS departure......and indeed vice versa.
Choice is a wonderful thing and a little healthy competition never really hurt anyone.

pray tell what aircraft you are refering to ????
Furthermore, popular understanding is that it is being bankrolled by the owners of a certain HAC helicopter training provider.
I would also like to add, that it was rumoured more than 1 year ago that a scenario such as this may transpire.

I think it would be great if the club attracted new members, but i would think it is unlikely to come from PPRUNE readers, given the vindictive assaults in the lost previous thread.
Both club and school will no doubt get new members once they start looking forward, not back.
My issue as a bystander with the 36 day notice is simply that it looks like a marriage broken down between committee and school, where the committee decided to take action (as they apparently had the right to do according to the constitution) without consulting the AGM which was supposed to take place within 2 weeks.
It was clear from the postings here at least some members thought this was not ok morally.
Given the fact there are clearly 2 camps within the club, i would be interested to know if this decision was announced as a separate subject for the AGM on a revised agenda including the possibility for the members (present) to vote on the decision through a vote of confidence.

If everyone was told of the issues, kept updated and then consulted prior to any action that effectively would alter the position of the club, this sorry mess may have been avoided.
I think there are a few lessons here regarding heirarchy and how members should be regarded in future.
As for a 30 year old Tommy, nothing wrong with that!!!! Though I`m surprised to hear a RUMOUR that it will be funded by the rotary boys considering the funds available within the club. Tommies of this age, even low hours (if you can find one) are not that expensive.
Are there any solid facts regarding this aircraft rather than the old "wait and see". Facts like when, hourly rate, membership increases to help fund it and so on?
Im just curious.
I`ll be up around Xmas time, hopefully to get out for a days flying at the same time and look forward to catching up with the latest goings on. I will however only be at the school so will only hear their side of the events, so if any Club members wish to elaborate...............

As someone who really enjoys their flying, I'm constantly looking for new destinations to fly to, and possibly stay at. Living in London with my plane kept at Denham, a 3-4 hour flight with the family on board will take me to either the south of France or Scotland.
However, to date, I haven't headed north as every time I think of so doing, up pops a thread on this forum (Oban, HFC Vs. HAC) that makes the prospect of Scotland look pretty unappetising.
I've no idea about the rights and wrongs of this (although, having in the past been involved with small commitees/companies/working groups/planning meetings et al, I can hazard a guess) but, until things quieten down 'up-north', I shall continue to take my family and wallet south. Maybe time to wash your dirty linen in private, guys?

Dont let the politics grind you down. Scotland has some spectacular scenery and great little airfields to visit. You dont have to speak to anyone if you dont like. You may find that during a visit to any airports or airfields the last thing you hear about is the problems.

You're right, I could bomb up and back and avoid talking to anyone who looked alarming. However, I'd like to visit, stay and enjoy without worrying that I'd stumbled into "The Wicca Man".....

All this in fighting is purely local if you did visit without reading pprune you wouldn't have a clue that a local civil war was in full flow. The majority of airports don't have any politics. Inverness is good for a fuel stop but really there are much nicer places for you to visit and stay the night.
My fav is Orkney there is so much to do and see never mind the excellent flying.

You are correct that the Tomahawk is a very good aircraft. My point was that it is not exactly modern.
As for communication between committee and members, the "sorry mess" could never have been avoided in my opinion. It was engineered right from the very start.
Of the two camps, it will be interesting to see which one has the most campers over the coming weeks.

if you do visit you might find it easier and quicker to request fuel (if you require it) with your initial contact. We used to do this flying up from Edinburgh area and most times the bowser was there and waiting, at worst just a 5-10 min wait. You can pay the bowser with credit card or cash. That part out of the way you can enjoy the rest of your visit.

It would be nice to see something modern knocking about but for me Im happy with the old fleet. The Warriors and 172 are good enough for me for the longer trips and I like the Toms for local mucking about.
At the other end of the spectrum I would love to see something vintage or open cockpit arriving, now that would persuade me to join the Aero Cub.
Where though would any new aircraft, modern or old be tucked up for the night?

In the Hangar?
I have heard that the best way to get your aircraft in the huge empty hangar is to be on the HAC sorry I mean "HANGAR" comittee..
I think the new Highland Aero Club aircaft will have no difficulty securing immediate space in the hangar. Lets face it there has always been acres of space in there. As long as it isnt parked in front of that red and white PA28 who else would complain?

I dont know, I cant find any info about it on HAC website or the internet. Certainly a couple of years ago some of the people on the HAC comittee now were on the Hangar comittee then.

I spent the best part of 2 hours de-icing LP last week, I was freezing. Could be nice to just walk out to a frost free plane.
Lucky for me the following slots were free so I still got up for a while.
I would be quite happy if future (if and when) HFS club funds were spent on either hangarage or covers.
Surely it would pay for itself during the winter months, what do you think.
