Berlin Templehof Flight School
Tempelhof Flight School
As the closure of Tempelhof is seemingly certain this month, I’ve booked a commercial flight to Berlin for a few days during week 43, with the intention of visiting Tempelhof in order to fulfil a long held ambition.
Over the closing hours, Air Service Berlin (air-service-berlin.de] and Tempelhof Airways (lastchancetempelhof.com) are commendably operating what is best described as an ‘Airlift’ of pleasure flights with both the Dakota and AN.2 respectively, however as a PPL Holder the chance to have the coveted Tempelhof ‘From/To’ in my Logbook would be one step better.
If I’m not too late, could somebody please post ‘Details/ Contacts’ for any resident Flight Training or Aircraft Hire organisations that have Aircraft available for at least one hour during the above week.
May I re-in force what has been said on here and elsewhere many times, go and see Tempelhof while it still operates as an Airport, as this time October 31st seems set to be the finale for this ‘Mother of All Airports’, to quote Mr. Norman Foster!
Finally may I recommend the 1950 film ‘The Big Lift’ for some superb flying footage of C.54’s flying in and around Tempelhof during the Berlin Airlift.

When we were there a couple of months ago there did not seem to be any sign of a flight school, just the sightseeing Dak flight and the visitors.
Maybe going to one of the airfield near Berlin and arranging a flight with a school into TH would work?

I don't know if you've got a map handy already or not, but looking at the one I've got here, I would suggest starting with EDAZ, EDBO, EDAY, EDBW, EDON, EDBF, EDAV or EDUT. Those are all tarmac fields within very reasonable distance (45 minutes max I guess). If you don't mind flying from grass there's even more fields close to Berlin.
Mind you - I've not been to any of these except EDDI. Just trying to give you a list to start.

Have spoken with Tempelhof Aviators and they are still resident at the Airport and indeed have Aircraft available for hire.
All being well I’ll post my experience here.
Thank you to Charlie, Bose X and Backpacker, your contacts and suggestions are very much appreciated!

What is the situation about flying in there in the last week its open? Untill what date can one fly in and out of there and is this affected by any special events prior to the closedown? Was going to fly to Hanover that week, but it'd be a shame not to go to and from Templehof while I'm so near.

I was there few weeks ago and flew a C152 with Flugschule Arrow-Airservice (Strausberg b. Berlin)
Lovely people and a super time ... really recommend them.

Hope it works out for you ... it was a magical experience for me!
When I paid my landing fee at Tempelhof, the lady also stamped my log book ... very cool!
