LAA permit a/c based in France?

Sorry if this has been covered before.

Is it possible to base an LAA Permit a/c in France?
I know to fly there you can get permission so please don't cover that, but to stay a long time? is there a time limit?

Yes you can base your aircraft there but make sure that your permit to fly is renewed well before the expiry date otherwise it can get a little awkward to authorise test flights. Call Ken Craigie the Chief Inspector at LAA and he will keep you properly informed.

My mate had something like 4 to 6 weeks before he had to get his homebuilt reregistered and repermitted.

Yep Gatwick. In around 2001 the CAA restricted the stay of European permit type aircraft to no more than 30 days. It was their way of ensuring no one 'side stepped' the oh so necessary rules! (and it also protected Section S manufacturers from foreign competition.)
