Elt 406
Having just spend the holiday budget to install a mode s transponder in our C172s year 2000 model we are now facing a new requirement. Several countries are now requiring ELT 406's. PLB's is not enough for at least our country Denmark.
Our Cessna is from the factory equipped with a Pointer 3000-11 ELT with 121,5 mhz. Is there anything on the market with 406 mhz that is plug compatibel with Easa approval etc. Otherwise it is a lot of money again for installation, wiring, ease approval etc. We can not be the only one needing this to be exchanged in a cessna 172.

Try a search, there have been some other recent threads on this, including specifics to model numbers.
I'm Dutch based so have the same problem. Also most probable accident is ditching - not flight into mountains, therefore portable EPIRB with GPS offers the best hope of rescue. However the regs seem to require a fixed aircraft install.
