I used to fly from Chatteris, it's a doddle as long as you are sensible.
As people ave said, get a good briefing, keep a good look out and listen for the drop plane. No overheads and all circuits to the east towards drainage ditches. Lots of runways, generally ok condition.
If you are in microlight or can land in ~350m you could always try Sutton Meadows, its south of Chatteris by a few miles. It is the most immaculate little field.
There are 3-4 private places close by too but in 5 years we were never "welcome"
safe trip

Thank you all for the information.
I am going up there to pick up a new bike from a mate in the village. I asked a lad down here for a lift up there, one way, that is why I asked for the info on here but since then he has had to drop out so I am a bit stuffed for a lift there now. Will have to take the dreaded train from Brighton up there on a Sunday
Of course if anyone happens to be flying that way from Shoreham on the 29th then I wouldn't mind a lift!!
Thanks again.

There's also Sibson (EGSP). Skydiving airfield as well with flying school etc. We're a friendly bunch, and flying in is easy so long as you ring us beforehand! No overhead joins and No deadside, but two runways so you're set for crosswinds!

The Chatteris parachute a/c talks to Lakenheath Approach (128.9) during the climb until just after the drop . Lakenheath usually relays an 'all stations' immediately before the drop.
They also talk to the parachute aeroplane at Old Buckenham.
Both a/c have been know to use the callsign 'Parachute 1 ', so listen out carefully for the airfield identification: at weekends they are often operating simultaneously.............
