Buying an IFR Tourer

Hi folks,

Anyone who wish to sell any IFR tourer, please contact me. Budget is 65k.

Requirements:
1) All digital/modern avionics (no interest in 1970's avionics at all)
2) Engine max hours 1,000
3) Aircraft max age - 15 years, ideally newer
4) Full autopilot, good interior/paint.

Please PM me,

VT

Yes, you would do really well for £65K.

The market is far more attractive at around £90K - particularly if you are prepared to import from America.

Unfortunatley Europe is also unattractive with the demise of sterling - unless of course you are in the non UK part of Euroland in which case American imports are even more attractive.

prices

You're right, last year it was around 90k list.

This year with oil at $135, I've noticed a lot of sellers slashing their prices more quickly for the larger a/c. It seems possible to get what I'm looking for at list 75-78k. A final price of 65k for a quick sale with no broker fees might work for someone, but naturally not for all.

I reckon secondhand aircraft values are falling like bricks right now (credit crunch, fuel, JAA, sexy Cirrus etc)

Well I would be very pleased if you are right. Perhaps the head line price is still well behind what sellers are willing to accept at the moment. I would certainly agree that I suspect the market is very soft for anyone anxious to sell and it is not likely to improve in the near future.

In Europe I suspect part of the problem is that few aircraft have avionics packages that have been properly brought up to date. If they have you are still left wondering whether you are buying into a high time engine, an airframe in need of a respray or an interior in desperate need of a make over.

On the other hand there are many capable IFR tourers on the US market for cicra £80K which are less than six years old. The market is also soft in the US and a seller might just be prepared to accept a substantial discount.

Good luck.

Give it 6 months and someone will give you a Diamond for free....

There are quite a few good Cessnas kicking around at the price. Later model 172 SP with the King Silver fits. Good tourers, very capable as IFR platforms and good load carrying. You might be able to find a 182 in that budget as well if you look hard enough but higher fuel burn for only a marginal increase in speed but bigger payload.

If you are really luck you might find a Hawk XP like mine which is a 172 on steroids, wobby prop etc. Very capable tourer and very good payload but you might have to add some avionics. I put in a HSI and S-Tec AP, fuel computer, air data computer etc to go with the Garmin kit.

In a depressed market it should not be too hard to find a good aircraft in your budget.

65k budget for the purchase.

What is the ongoing maintenance budget?

The two trade off one against the other. You will never be able to push one out without the other coming back to bite you (on average; you can get lucky).

Are we talking about 65k £'s, $'s or Euro's?
