7401 squak for "Scottish Information"
Those frequent users of "Scottish Information" on 119.875 will have noticed during the past week that on initial contact with the FIR sector aircraft are being asked to squak 7401 with mode "C" if able. Just as a head's up to you all, the service you will recieve is as in the past a "Flight Information service" provided by a "Non Radar" sector.......the reason for the squak is to identify those aircraft participating in the "FIS" from Scottish FIR sector to any other radar based unit...i.e. Glasgow,Edinburgh, Leuchars etc. If the likes of Glasgow etc.deem the aircraft maybe getting close to their zone boundary they will call the Scottish FIR sector and ask the aircraft to be transferred to their frequency to deconflict from any traffic they may have. It is hoped that this procedure will reduce any possability of participating aircraft from accidentally infringing controlled airspace........it was nice to see so many customers using the service this afternoon in what proved to be a fantastic flying day over the "Scottish FIR" As I have said before on this forum the more people that take the time and effort to use the service the better the service will be............awaiting your calls....."Scottish Information"

I have always found scottish to be excellent. I regularly use them between Andreas (Iom) and Newtonards. That little extra mile with the sqwauk code is even better and it is nice to see ATCU's getting proactive in preventing zone infringements.
